1983 Miami Football Helmets

Postby mizzoufan1 on Fri Sep 14, 2007 5:11 pm

This was a one year thing when my father coached Miami R-1 in the 1983 Football season. He had the Block "M" like Missouri had at the time. (Only it was Green instead of gold).

The Helmet itself was White with a Black Facemask in 1982. Added the Decal (My father bought them for the helmets himself, Ath. Dept. at the time did not have the $$$ to do it) in 1983 with no other changes. Then Miami went back to the plain look after my father left and stayed that way until ?.

Hope this helps you...

You, by chance, don't remember if the plain helmets after 1983 were exactly the same as ?-1982, do you?

Let me know and I will make them when I have time...

Thanks,

Mike

My father says yes. But he says he had a MIX of Black and White facemasks both before and while he was there. He says he wanted all black but sometimes he had to use older white ones. The school was so small he used what was available.

I'm going to make them with black facemasks then if that's what they intended to and did use...

Thanks,

Mike

Black Facemasks was HIS intent. THe school at the time was not in a caring mood about football (and being just down from Butler did not help). As for previously, the plain look with black or white facemasks occured. He really does not know when they used white "exclusively"

But again, He was only the head coach there for one year.

Before I post this, please let me know if it's correct....I used the same "M" as Missouri did at the time....

Small revisions...

Now that my dad has seen what your helmet looks like he has these things to add...(I call this rattling the memory.)

He had a green stripe down the middle (standard) that had started in prior years.

He also says that the "M" is right but he only had enough decals for the Right Side only. The left was blank.

I'm sorry about this, this is just long ago info that he is bringing back from the ol' memory banks...
